Personality:

Due to her history (See Below), Gwen suffers from severe anxiety, and has been ever since she was a young girl. Her attacks are only amplified by her powers, and may cause her to be extremely destructive towards others. It also causes her to be afraid of almost anything, and will either retreat into herself or dangerously lash out when she feels threatened, which is often.

When she isn't having a panic attack or being constantly bombarded by visions, Gwen is really a sweet person. And if you can get her sane for a few minutes, she can be incredibly helpful when it comes to determining your future. Otherwise, her descriptions of her visions consist of nothing but hard-to-decipher mumbling.

Gwen can usually go several years where she is lucid the majority of the time, but it doesn't take much to push her back into insanity. Once she's there, it takes a lot of coercing to bring her back. There have been periods of several decades where Gwen is in an almost-constant manic state. This is usually during times of political or civil unrest in the country she's in.

Overall history:

Gwendolyn Pallas was born to a poor family of muggles in France just before the Revolution. Her father was an alcoholic who worked as a fisherman, and her mother was, like so many others, forced into prostitution in order to help keep them fed. One day when she was seven, her father went off to America in order to find better work, but he died on the voyage there. The next Christmas, Gwen's mother Catherine returned from her work wearing nothing but her petticoat and bodice. Some ruthless thugs had used her "services", stolen all she owned, and neglected to pay her. She was suffering from severe hypothermia. Upon realizing that her mother was dying, Gwen, in a moment of panic, accidentally sparked a fire with her subconscious magic. It quickly spread and enveloped their whole home, taking Gwen's mother in the process.

The small girl was traumatized by this, and sent to an orphanage, where the other children tortured her because of her severe anxiety, the occasional prophesy, and her infrequent outbursts of subconscious magic. Gwendolyn stayed in the orphanage until she was twelve, when her magical became such a problem that she was kicked out onto the streets. She wandered through Paris for three years, starving and feverish, until she encountered a kind-hearted young wizard by the name of Jaques Elliot. Upon discovering her magical abilities, Jaques took her in and nursed her back to health, at the same time teaching her how to properly control her gift.

Gwen grew to adore magic, and inevitably Jaques. Despite all her oddities, the man loved her as well, and three years later, proposed to her. Two weeks before their wedding, her fiance went missing. Several days later, Jaques staggered through the door of their home, a large mess of coagulated blood spread all over his neck and face. He called out to Gwen, claiming that he had an early wedding present for her. She appeared before him, and before she could scream, he had bitten her. The two were now bonded by more than just love, and despite the fact that Gwen had no choice in the matter, she was happy. That is, until a couple of neighbors found out their secret.

They were deeply disturbed by the presence of vampires nearby, and inspired by the general feeling of rebellion and violence already in the atmosphere due to the Revolution, they gathered a large mob of people to swarm on their house and light it on fire. Gwendolyn never saw Jaques again. The eighteen-year-old, unable to handle such a tragedy, cracked. For two-hundred years she wandered the globe, each year her visions becoming more and more frequent. She was often forced to escape from the occasional insane asylum. She finally moved to Scandanavia, where she was able to spend most of the remaining hundred years of her life until migrating to Azorat, where she heard there was a safe haven for people like her. Even today, the memories of her past and the terrors of the future haunt her with frightening clarity, and keep her speaking in riddles.
