A Game of Thrones

Tre was standing beside one of the tables, systematically pulling out the pieces of Wizard's Chess and giving them a slight pep talk. "Don't worry. You know we're evenly matched. We won last time..." A victorious cheer rose from the pieces, but he shushed them. "That's a small victory. We've won the battle, not the war." He placed each of the small black peices onto their squares, continueing his little pre-game pep-talk as he did so.

He and Ciar had been meeting for a game of chess every Wednesday after classes, and he was getting used to it. There was nothing like a nice game of chess to let you forget your troubles, and focus on the warfare on the board. They had each won six gamese, which made for a total of twelve games. They were evenly matched, a fact that had surprised Tre at first. He'd expected her to be much better than him, but you learned to play good chess when the reward from the mafia was a new weapon, or a vacation day.

Finished now, he looked over his peices. This set had been with him the longest, and he knew them like he knew himself.

"You ready, men?" He grinned. "And Queen?"

The pieces cheered.

Strolling casually into the Great Hall Ciar allowed her grey eyes to wander momentarily before falling upon Shawn. She made her way over to him and took the seat across the table from him. One of the things that she liked about Durmstrang was that the house tables were just tables. No one got uptight if you didn't sit at your 'specific table' with your house.

"Ready to lose, Shawn," the Irish teen asked teasingly as she took her white chess pieces from her knapsack and arranged them on her side of the board. "We've been training and won't lose so easily this time around."

Tre looked up at her, grinning. "In your dreams, Cia." He teased, greating her with a grin. "We've been practicing too, haven't we, men?" His pieces did a loud cheer, and his grin widened.

"Don't be surprised if we wipe the floor with you again." He winked at her before lowering his gaze to the board. "Your turn to go first."

Ciar gave a wry smirk and turned her gaze towards the board. Chess was a hobby of hers that increased her strategic planning mind and enhanced her logic. It was the game of Kings for a very good reason.

Planning her moves carefully Ciar studied the board thinking of how she wanted to set up the game so she could win. "Knight to c-3," she ordered, her countenance smooth and unhurried.
