    Red Bull

Post by Treshawn Beneparte on Wed Jun 20, 2012 5:42 am

It had started off quite innocently. He had stopped at a local minimart to see if he could grab something to snack on as he walked. The trick with laying low was moving when they expected you to be hiding and hiding when they expected you to be moving. It was a skill he'd developed quite by accident, and boy was it coming in handy.

He could not even bring himself to enjoy the little rebellion he was throwing in the mobs face.

Sighing, Treshawn packed his pockets full of little cakes and treats, knowing that he had to eat something, and right now, his body craved sugar. In the corner, the bored cashier flipped through another page in his magazine, not even noticing the boy a few isles over. Somewhere over Tre's shoulder, an old television screen was spewing advertisements in cheery voice. His fingers paused over a basket of Ringpops, his eyes flickering over the flavors. Blue raspberry, green apple, cherry.

"Drink a Redbull!" The TV exclaimed, a comical 2D cartoon with a bottle of the energy drink flashing across the screen. Tre's eyes went up briefly to the fuzzy image, trying to distract himself from the candy held loosely in his hand.

    "It gives you wiiiiings!!!"

The world went lopsided, then it was a half hour later, he was half into a convenience store fridge, lamenting the fact that there was only sixteen cases of the energy drink, with six of each drink. He was feeling wired, the combination of artificial energy and sorrow nearly sending his nerves on fire. The fact kept circling back to him.

No matter how many Redbulls he drank, no matter how many times he downed one and looked around, it wasn't going to happen. It wasn't going to bring her back.

It wasn't going to give him his Wings.

Ciar slipped into the little convenience store keeping a wary eye out for anyone that might be following her. She kept to the muggle side of things when she needed certain sweets and other items, preferring to acquire them herself as opposed to getting a house elf to pick them up. She had visited this particular store before and as the cashier glanced towards the door with a bored expression she shot him a glare, which made him pick up his magazine and scurry into the backroom. He had gotten the message the last time she had been in here.

Grabbing a bag of Cheetos and a Mars bar the Irish teen headed to the coolers for a Coke. Rounding the aisle she frowned at the body lying half inside the fridge. Setting down her treats and hand moving to the knife at her hip Ciar approached the body.

"Shawn," Ciar coughed out in shock. Moving the cans with her feet as she approached the teen grabbed the boy by the collar of his shirt and hauled him out of the cooler. Shutting the door and leaning Shawn against it Ciar gave him the best glare she could muster under the circumstances, which would still be enough to send most people scurrying for cover. "Just what in the hell did you think you were doing, Shawn," she asked. "Do you know what this shit can do to you?"

Tre blinked as he was shoved against the glass, a dopey smile gracing his lips as he strugged to focus on the girl in front of him. "Ci..." He sighed, golden eyes swirling as shivers took over his body. The raw artifical energy had his senses going haywire, and he knew enough to know he reeked of the stuff. How many had he drank? An irrational laugh bubbled up from his throat.

"C-Checkmate, Ci...ah..." He murmured, grinning. "Happy Game..."

The resounding smack echoed around the store as Ciar's hand connected with the side of Shawn's face, leaving a bright red hand print on his cheek. Her nostrils flared angrily and her grey eyes blazed with untamed fury.

"Of all the stupid things you have done, Shawn, this really takes the cake," she ground out keeping her voice even and only slightly tinged with ice. "You smell absolutely horrible and I don't even want to know what you were thinking when you decided this was a good idea. Ashleen would have a field day if she saw you in this sorry state." She crossed her arms across her chest and glared at the boy.

Finding his head slammed to the side once more, cheek flaring in pain, the sharp sound filling the air, Tre simply... lost it.

His hands wrapped around her wrists, the one eye glaring through his hair at her almost onyx. Tugging her down to him, he turned toward her, cheek still enflamed and eyes swirling in anger. Using one hand to keep her wrists together - unknowingly squeezing hard enough to bruise - the other snatched her jaw and brought them eye to eye.

"Do not." He growled. "Hit. Me."

Something in his chest cracked when she said that name, his eyes flashing to their familiar gold for the brief second in which the two syllables hung in the air before he was shoving her away and on his feet, heading for the exit in an impressively straight path for someone such intoxicated..

Even Cia agreed that she was happier without him.

Feeling herself being handled so roughly and Shawn's response sent Ciar back into a bad place. It was back with her father except instead of him it had been her sating not to hit her or he would be sorry. These memories sparked a deep seated rage in the teen and she felt herself go completely cold with the raging fire burning deep in her chest.

As Shawn turned and started to walk away a growl ripped out from her throat and she grabbed his wrist with an iron grip and spun him around before pushing him to the ground and straddling his chest in a way that made it difficult to get up. "No," she hissed the only thing betraying her inner anger was the dark gray fire in her eyes. "I will strike you because you obviously need it. I will not let you walk out of here because it is not an intelligent thing to do. However, I am willing to let you up if you agree to talk to me and tell me why you thought doing something this stupid was a good idea." She crossed her arms and glared down at the boy, almost daring him to go against her because she was not in a happy enough place to tolerate it.

He had fully intended to leave and just never speak of it again. This didn't change as he glared up at her, his irises fully black. He made no move to struggle, content to just glare back at her, the only thing in his eyes deep, swirling fury. His eyes flashed gold again, and for the briefest second, he looked almost sorry.

"I don't expect you to get off voluntarily."

The words were barely out of his mouth before the world exploded.

Water - from the light rain that had started outside to the ice in the freezer to the water bottles suddenly twisting themselves into knots - materialized in a swirl around them, a whirlpool of sheer force and power.

    From beneath her, Tre laughed.

"Might want to hold your breath."

Water slammed into Ciar, blowing her off of him and down the isle away from the exit. Tre was on his feet in moments, making his way toward the door, toward escape.

He passed the candy isle and paused, his eyes catching on the cherry flavored Ring Pops in the basket.

His entire posture changed, shoulders sagging. Then he was running.

Falling to his knees beside Ciar, eyes bright gold, he looked her over, horror at himself shining through his gilded gaze. "Are you- I'm sorry I- You aren't- hurt are you?"

She gazed down into his black eyes, wait hadn't they just been gold, waiting for his decision. His eyes puzzled her but she would ask about that later. Eyes widening at his words Ciar felt herself grow slightly frightened at the water around them.

As the water slammed into her it knocked the wind from her lungs and blasted her down the aisle, her head coming to rest against the shelfs at the end of the aisle. She couldn't breathe and it hurt to move. Was this how it was destined to end? Abandoned by her supposed 'friend' in a tiny corner store after he had attacked her. She had only been trying to help in the only way she knew how.

Ciar managed to glare at Shawn as he kneeled beside her. "You just... blasted me down the freakin' aisle," she gasped. "Is this how... friends treat... each other?" She drew a shallow breath. It felt like her ribs were broken it hurt that much to breathe. Closing her grey eyes the teen focused on getting enough oxygen from the shallow breaths she was able to take.

"Wouldn't know." He murmured, resting one of his hands on her ribs. "Don't have many friends, never have." His golden eyes flickered over her as his hand started to glow, pulling all the water that had soaked into her clothes and drenched her skin to that one point as the golden light and euphoria sank into her.

"Don't struggle." He chided lightly as the the light continued to heal her, setting her right and fixing everything he had caused, as well as older aches and pains, and even a few of the scars, though he wasn't there long enough to do all of them. He pulled away, eyes flickering over her as he finished, his hands leaving her.

"I-I'm really sorry." He sat back, completely unconcerned that he was drenched. He sighed, golden eyes swirling as he looked away.

She felt herself drying and it became easier to breathe as her ribs slipped back into place. At least they hadn't punctured her lungs. Ciar wasn't sure how long she would have lasted had that happened. The happiness started to seep into her being and she had to force it down. She couldn't let such an emotion cloud her judgement. Getting to the bottom of Shawn's strange behaviour was the main priority.

Opening her grey eyes a sliver after he had finished whatever he was doing. "You know, if you weren't such a damn angel I'd call you a bastard right now." Wincing slightly as she sat up since no amount of healing could fix everything wrong with her, the Irish teen reached out and turned Shawn's head towards her. "I know you're sorry. I knew it as soon as you came back instead of leaving me to suffer." She grimaced. "Which, unfortunately, is what a vast majority of others would have done."

A small smile flitted across her face. "Now that you've got that out of your system how about you tell me why you decided that the idiotic stunt you pulled was a good idea."

He offered her a strained grin that was only a shadow of his usual angelic one, then looked down at his lap, the wetness of his hair flopping his bangs down into his eyes, hiding his expression. "I wouldn't leave you to die. I wouldn't even leave you injured, anyway." He shrugged a shoulder.

At her question, the half angel found himself suddenly lip-locked, his voice disappearing as did his almost-lightened mood. His gaze lowered to the still wet floor between them, watching the water as it swirled lazily past them. Would he be able to tell her? It didn't seem so. In fact, it would probably never be spoken aloud.
