With the Dust Bunnies Empty With the Dust Bunnies

Post by Evelina Moffett Tue Sep 25, 2012 2:40 am

Evelina Joelle Moffett was securely stationed beneath the bed of her new room. Her trunk had been pulled under the bed after her, effectively blocking the little girl from view.

She wasn't exactly trying to make a statement. There was nothing she was trying to gain, or anything she was consciously trying to communicate. It was simply a small space and she was hiding from the world.

The Minister hadn't spent much time trying to coax her out. Ev wasn't ready to deal with her yet, either. She had started to leave plates of food at regular intervals coinciding with meal time. The girl had come out to eat some of it. And to nick a pillow from the bed.

Ev didn't spend the entire time under the bed, of course. That would have been far too dull. It was only the bulk of the day she spent under there, so as to avoid having to face... anyone, really.

And so it was that she curled up under the bed when somebody different entered her room. She knew who it was right away, of course - she had a nose, after all. The girl hunched defensively. She was not coming out!

The man was whistling pleasantly as he entered the room, the tune evening out into a low whistle as he examined the room she was staying in. It was much nicer than anything he would have grown up in, that was for sure. Volchonka really knew how to make a child feel at home.

Which was probably why their's was under the bed.

It wasn't really a choice he had, just laying down on his back on the floor, resting his arms behind his head and gazing up at the ceiling. It was a nice ceiling, free of rats and mold and other things the boys home had always had present.

"Nice place you got here, Ev." He said, a grin tugging at his lips. "You know, you could put those little glow in the dark star stickers up on the ceiling..." He spread his arms wide for a moment, before placing them back under his head. "Put some under the bed too." He wrinkled his nose slightly. "There's no dust bunnies or anything under there are there? Wouldn't want you to sneeze yourself to death or something... oh!" There was the sound of crinkling plastic, and a packaged chocolate frog slid through to the space behind the trunk. "I brought you a treat."

Humming a tune, the man fell silent, his eyes on the ceiling again.

The trunk shifted ever-so-slightly, a pair of golden brown eyes peering around the end of it for a second before disappearing again. She snuggled into the pillow, intent on waiting out the man's visit.

Ev blinked a bit in surprise when the man started prattling on about glow-in-the-dark stickers. Why would she put stickers on her ceiling and the bottom of her bed? It would take forever to line them up in a proper grid only to have to have someone take them down again. Her ceiling was fine just the way it was. Stars belonged outside.

The girl reached a hand out and grabbed the candy. She turned it over thoughtfully before tucking it back in the corner. She would save it for after supper, otherwise it would spoil her appetite (which, considering her funk, wasn't that bad).

Rolling over onto her back, Ev let out a small huff, staring resignedly at the bottom of her bed.

Brock hummed a soft tune, not at all bothered by the girl's silence. "You know the Full is soon, I'm sure. I was just making sure you're settled in is all. Can't have the future of the Pack maltreated, can we? They are feeding you right?" He was only half joking, having taken note of the small amount of food missing from the plate on her dresser. Surely Kallie wouldn't have forgotten such a monumental detail. "You're welcome to the Pack House in Azorat whenever you wish, of course. The moment you decided to join we made a room for you, and it is always open." He grinned at the ceiling.

"Oh, and I can bring you whatever you need, if you do need anything, that is. It's my responsibility as an Alpha, if you must know, and I do my job with pride." He shrugged a shoulder nonchalantly.

Golden brown eyes peered around the trunk, again, but didn't disappear as they had the previous time. Of course she was being fed. She usually ate most of her food. Today, she was just not as hungry.

Staring back up at the bottom of her bed, Ev shrugged even though the man could not see the action. She fidgeted distractedly with her fingers. There wasn't anything she needed that she didn't have already. The girl understood that the man was just doing his job as Alpha, and probably in some part as her birth father, but she just... couldn't deal with that, yet. It didn't matter that they were both trying to be understanding; the thought of either of her birth parents just made her miss her real parents more.
