Karma made her way to the Common Room, rolling her head on her shoulders. There was nothing like a nice training session with the Whomping Willow to put you in a good news. Her prefects badge had been moved to her robe pocket for safety reasons (she hadn't wanted the tree to smash it or something). She was barely paying attention to the rest of the Slyths... that was, until the sounds of sobs reached her ears. She paused on the outside of the portrait, her inhuman hearing picking up the sound of the girl's sobs.

Did First years do anything but cry these days?

She pushed into the room, her eyes going from the first year girl, Snape she thought, and Certh. "What on earth is going on now?" she demanded. She eyed the glow on the girl's shoulder, but it was barely anything extraordinary. They were in the magical world, for one thing, and glowing was something pretty common. She raised an eyebrow at the girl. "Grit your teeth or something. Stop crying."
