At First Sight Empty At First Sight

Post by Vera Parker Sun Jan 06, 2013 9:54 pm

The silence was odd in nature. Vera knew that there should be silence, everything that had been in her hearing range, her old hearing range was dead, but that did not mean that she couldn't hear anything. She could hear lots of things, things that she knew she wasn't supposed to be hearing - and not just because it was hesitation and then turn of footsteps as they avoided walking past the room she was in.

Her room, or so she was told. Blank and empty it looked nothing like her room at home, her parents house. Not home, she had been told quite firmly where she could go, her mother - frightened - would have nothing to do with her any more. Her father spent so much time being frightened of his wife, Vera hardly knew if he had any room left to be afraid of her too. If there was, she was sure he would be. Another sudden change of directions startled her from her thoughts. She figured they shouldn't be scared of her too, if anyone was in a position to be scared it was her.

Getting up slowly off the bed that she had perched herself on, she moved across the small room, stopping in front of the small mirror that was there. As she had walked she had slowly pealed her shirt off, and over her shoulder. In the reflective metal, the white puckered skin of her scar danced in front of her. That was what had done it, that was how she had-had-

Closing her eyes against the memories, the confusion, fear, pain she had felt, Vera took a slow and careful breath, reminding herself that it wasn't going to be like that again. It wasn't for two reasons - one, she knew better. The feeling, the loss of control she had, had - she had hated it. And two, she wasn't alone now.

Unwittingly, she found her thoughts moving towards the boy she had just met. She supposed he was really a young man now, a few years older than herself, however she couldn't help but think of him as a boy. Brock Cox. A born wolf she had been told, he was supposed to 'mentor' her through this. Though how anyone so broken could pull himself together to help anyone was beyond her. It had been obvious in every way that he moved that talking to her, dealing with her was the last thing in the world that he wanted. Although she was sure she couldn't take it personally, it was hard not to on some level.

He was handsome enough she supposed. Sure, he had those classic good looks, nice cheekbones, eyes she supposed could dazzled if the look behind them wasn't so devoid of any pleasing emotion, or any emotion at all, and if the circumstances had been different, Vera probably would have been the first to volunteer to run her hands along those muscles she noticed rippling under his shirt. But that was, actually just it. The circumstances weren't different. She wasn't looking for a relationship - she still wasn't sure she wouldn't kill them every time the moon came out, and he was obviously too far gone over someone else.

She frowned in thought. She wondered who it was, what had happened. Vera had never loved anyone enough to look so crushed - in fact she wasn't sure she had ever loved anyone. Returning her shirt to where it had begun, she looked over her shoulder at the door as if her heightened sense could see through the wood and find the subject of her thoughts. She hadn't realized she was in fact unconsciously listening to the sounds of the house to see if she could pick out his until she came up empty.

There was something about the boy that she couldn't shake. Even if he found some way out of helping her - shift it off on to someone else like she was sure he wanted to - Vera suddenly knew she wouldn't leave him alone. She was curious now, and a curious Vera always got what she wanted.

She wouldn't rest until she figured Brock Cox out.
